昨日ＤＭＭ英会話のDaily Newsの中で気になった英文があった。

The United States is the world leader in credit card debt, according to statistics from the Census Bureau and the Federal Reserve Board. And not just by a little. U.S. credit card debt is more than double that of the United Kingdom. It almost equals credit card debt of the next six countries combined: France, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Russia and China.
One of the reasons the U.S. is world leader is the increasing use of credit cards by Americans, a practice they do not always share with other people in the world.
２番めのworld leaderのまえに冠詞の the がない！！
最初は役職（chairpersonなど）には冠詞がつかないのと同じ理由かと思ったが、最初の文にはworld leaderに the がついているので違うか。
ニュースタイトルで冠詞は省略されることがあるが、ニュースタイトルでもない。
ＤＭＭ英会話の講師に聞いたらこれはこれで正しいとのこと。
本当かな？
なんていう用法なのかわからないので調べようがないのが歯がゆい。
"is world leader" - Google 検索 １２万
"is a world leader" - Google 検索 ２９９万
"is the world leader" - Google 検索 ２１１０万
ヒット数からすると間違いっぽい。
追記（2016年4月14日）
別のＤＭＭ英会話の講師に聞いたら、terminologyじゃないかと言った。
terminologyの意味 - 英和辞典 Weblio辞書
(特殊な)用語法、術語、(専門)用語、術語学
コンピューター分野におけるIT(infromation technology)が冠詞を必要としないように、world leaderを扱ったのではないかとのこと。
固有名詞みたいな感じだ。
